Bayern's Alaba, Rafinha to miss start of season

Munich, Germany (Sports Network) - Bayern Munich defenders David Alaba and Rafinha will miss the beginning of the season due to injuries suffered in a friendly with Napoli, the German club announced Saturday.

Alaba, 20. suffered a a stress fracture in his left foot and will be out six to eight weeks. Alaba emerged as the starting left back last season.

Rafinha, 26, ruptured ligaments in his right ankle and will be sidelined four to five weeks. A right back, Rafinha was a starter earlier last season before Alaba's switch from midfield to defense.

Bayern plays Borussia Dortmund in the German Super Cup on Aug. 12, and starts the Bundesliga season Aug. 25 at Greuther Furth.
