There will be no Roger Federer at the Madrid Open.
The 17-time grand slam champion announced Monday that a back injury has forced him to pull out of the tournament. This is his fifth withdrawal of 2016.
"I don't want to take any more chances. I'd rather play it safe," Federer said during a news conference.
However, Federer did indicate that he'll be back in time for the Rome Masters, which begins May 9.
