As a Federally regulated employer, The Score Television Network is responsible for upholding the objectives of The Employment Equity Act.

The goal of the Employment Equity Act is to eliminate systemic discrimination against designated group members and to accommodate diversity. In order to achieve a representative workforce, employers subject to the Act are required to develop and implement an employment equity program to remove barriers for the following designated groups: women, members of visible minorities, Aboriginal people and persons with disabilities. The purpose of this Act is to achieve equality in the workplace so that no person shall be denied employment opportunities or benefits for reasons unrelated to ability and, in the fulfillment of that goal, to correct the conditions of disadvantage in employment experienced by these designated groups. The Score Television Network has undertaken the following measures to ensure employment equity and diversity in the workplace:

  • the appointment of its Manager of Human Resources to manage the employment equity plan and to implement and coordinate employment equity initiatives internally and with external designated groups;
  • annual meetings with managers to monitor whether managers are complying with employment equity practices;
  • providing managers with ongoing information regarding cultural and disability barriers, and to continue educating managers on bias-free interview techniques;
  • the creation of a website survey to receive feedback from viewers on The Score's employment equity initiatives;
  • posting a testimony of The Score's commitment to employment equity on its website;
  • continuing to distribute all job postings to culturally diverse organizations and organizations that cater to women and to persons with disabilities;
  • continuing to provide internship opportunities to a wide range of candidates from diverse backgrounds and with varied experience;
  • continuing to conduct exit interviews with former staff and incorporating ideas generated from these interviews into the positive changes that will ensure a successful employment equity strategy at The Score.
