Bregman: Astros primed to 'go on a run'

Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman believes the club turned a corner after a two-game sweep of the Colorado Rockies over the weekend in Mexico City.

"We're going to get super hot and go on a run," Bregman said, according to ESPN's Alden Gonzalez.

The two wins improved Houston's record to 9-19 on the season. The Astros are looking to become only the third team in history to make the postseason after losing 18 of their first 25 games.

The Astros trail the Seattle Mariners by 6.5 games for first place in the AL West.

Houston has been the model of consistency in the American League for nearly a decade, making seven consecutive ALCS appearances and winning a pair of World Series titles.

"I know the character of the guys in this room," Bregman said. "I know that we have fighters in here that are going to continue to show up and compete every day and prepare correctly and go out and execute on the field. We have way too many good players in here, way too many who know what success is like at this level."

Bregman is in the final season of a six-year contract extension signed in 2019. The 30-year-old is off to a slow start at the plate, hitting .216 with zero home runs, five doubles, and seven RBIs in 25 games this season.
